OVERVIEW
The industrial nodes of Jacobs and Clairwood are a historical centre of economic activity for the city as well as the Province of KwaZuluNatal. Historically manufacturing and the textile industries were located in Jacobs and Clairwood as the paper industry, oil refineries and chemicals producers.  Whilst a source of large amounts of pollution, the employment generated in the industries located in Southern basin was significant and was predominantly skilled jobs. 

As the South Africa economy has been out witted by falling competitiveness, structural problems and labour unrest the industrial base has shrunk. Jacobs and Clairwood are now home to more logistics operators and fewer industrialists. However, the property in the area was not designed to accommodate efficient, high volume logistics operations. Hence A grade logistics facilities with large yards are in short supply in this area. 

This area falls within what is known as Zone 1. All industrial property within 10kms of the Port of Durban is classified according to Zones for transport operators running from the Port. 

ACCESSIBILITY AND DISTANCE
Jacobs and Clairwood are adjacent nodes that are within 5kms of the Port of Durban. They are accessed via the M4 highway and the main arterial route of Solomon Mhlangu leading to the N2 highway. 

NEARBY INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL NODES
The main boundaries of these two industrial nodes are Bayhead and Mobeni. The closest commercial node is the CBD of Durban. 

NEARBY AMENITIES
The nearest amenities and public facilities are located in the neighbouring suburb of the Bluff. Situated within a 5km radius is the Bluff Hillside Mall, Wentworth Hospital, Medi Cross, beautiful beaches including Treasure Beach and numerous schools including Brighton Beach Senior Primary and Durban Academy High School. 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Jacobs and Clairwood are serviced by Metro Rail and buses and taxi's. There are two Metro Rail stations servicing the area and three taxi and bus ranks.
